Condition: Fine. 206 Pgs. ISBN 0292775261. LCCN 67-25326. By Jack Gregory and Rennard Strickland. The details of Sam Houston's life with the Cherokee Indians have remained obscure. In the more than fifty biographies of Sam Houston only slight reference is made to these years. To reconstruct these years, the authors have examined Indian agency records, maps, Congressional documents, traders' account books, contemporary diaries, unpublished letters, shipping records, missionary reports, and newspapers, as well as Houston's letters and speeches. For the first time permission has been granted for use of the Indian Archives of the Thomas Gilcrease Institute in a Houston biography. In addition to research in these primary documents the authors draw upon years of observation of the culture of the Cherokee Indians. Description text copyright 2011 BooksForComfort. Item ID 25943.
