Needlepoint Designs From American Indian Art by Nora Cammann. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, NY, 1973. Book Club Edition. Hardbound, Paper DJ. Size 4to (up to 12'' tall). Condition: Fine in Chipped DJ. Orig owners bookplate inside front cover. 84 Pgs. ISBN 0684132982. Photographs and illustrations by Rolf Siljander. This book presents 20 designs for pillows, stools, belts, slippers and other articles, derived from the work of four Indian groups - those of the Southwest, the Great Plains, the Pacific northwest and the Eastern Woodlands. Some of the designs are representational - deer, fish, birds - and others are abstract. All are striking and although traditional in their original forms they seem entirely contemporary in adaptation. Each design is illustrated in color while diagrams and close-up black and white photographs show exactly how to work it. A variety of stitches are used to give the work an interesting texture and each one is carefully explained. Although nearly every design has been worked on canvas any of them can be adapted to crewel work techniques. Description text copyright 2005 BooksForComfort. Item ID 8071.
